Persimmon Pudding - a Holiday Fav

My Grandma Leta Metcalf Atwood served this rich dessert for special occasions while Persimmons were in season, and it is a holiday favorite in our family. We freeze ripe persimmon pulp, blended and measured into 1 C. portions for use in recipes all year long.

Grandma's original recipe card for Persimmon Pudding was dated 1931, from the magazine, California Farm Life.

Try it ... this is a baked pudding, not a custard. You'll LOVE it.

Persimmon Pudding Recipe

Makes 8-9 servings
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Dry Ingredients:
1 cup Flour
1 cup Sugar
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Soda

1 Egg, well beaten
1/4 cup Milk
1 cup Ripe Persimmon Pulp, (blended, w/ skin on)
1 Tablespoon Vanilla

Add after wet & dry are mixed:
4 Tablespoons Melted Butter (but NOT Hot!)

Nutmeg Sauce:
(make this just before serving it)
1 1/4 cup Boiling Water

2/3 cup Sugar
2 Tablespoon Flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
Dash Nutmeg

Mix dry ingredients together.
Mix wet ingredients together EXCEPT THE BUTTER.

Mix wet and dry together thoroughly. Stir in the melted butter.
Bake at 350 degrees in greased 8x8x2 pan, or 8 inch round cake pan for approx 40-45 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE.

We've always found them best when baked at least a day ahead. Store at room temperature.

Directions for Sauce:
Mix dry ingredients VERY well.
Stir into 1 1/4 Cup boiling water.
Add 2 Tblspoon butter to boiling water. Stir fast, cooking at boiling until clear, approximately 5 minutes. Add 1/2 tsp. nutmeg after done (or less to taste)

Serve the Persimmon Pudding with hot Nutmeg sauce over it and a dollop of whipped cream on top.

The regular price will be $3 - on sale Sunday and Monday for an introductory 35% off. It doesn't get much less expensive than this!

Enjoy them, I sure will be!

Here's a zoom in of the border cluster (reduced for the web page, of course) ... isn't she brilliant?!

Sports Paper Packs

I love making papers. It's just my favorite thing to do. So that's exactly what I did for a new sports theme collab the designers at NutHouse-Scraps were putting together. Paper Packs. Four of them.

Football, Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball papers. With 4 extra all-purpose ones painted in light that will mix and match. Whether you have players or fans, I think you'll find lots of uses for the variations on each sports theme:

Each sport is available separately, too - but if you need more than kind of ball game, this bundle is priced so inexpensively that it will cost you less to buy the bundle, than to buy two sets!

Perfect for action shots at practice, during games, or for pics of your crowd  sprawled all over the family room watching "THE GAME" on TV.

Damasks featured by Che Yang Designs

Oh, look at this AWESOME Collab by Che Yang and Scooty's Designs! Che used my CU Damasks 2, large motifs, in some of the prints throughout this soft and whimsical, Autumn Romance kit.

Featuring a carefree and precise styling in peaches, pinks, greens, and browns, there's a definite easy-going freshness to this look at Autumn Memories. Here's just the paper pack:

I can see the Damask Riviera in that beautiful brown and pink, and again in a pink tone on tone paper. The swirling, detailed lines of Autumn Romance walk that unusual and beautiful line between hand drawn and elegant. All in all, this is one classy digital scrapbooking kit that is very flexible. I hope you'll look at the all the other layouts, too - you'll agree with me that barely pink, green, and soft doe brown have never been this versatile.

Thumbs up Che! This is 100% gorgeous! It's exactly what I envisioned people using Damasks by Debbers  for.

Falling For You

Falling For You is done and in the shop at - it will be on sale at 35% off today until Midnight eastern time. It is a romantic creation in the tones of Autumn. My inspiration ... wasn't around me, Fall comes late to us here in California. But a few years ago my daughter had a Fall Wedding; Burnished Oranges, Chocolate browns, and accents of all the colors of fall. The wedding was gorgeous, far more so than I had imagined. So that's what I kept in mind as I worked in the colors of autumn for this set.

The detailed 100% zoom looks like this:

Here's a page of the bride made from Falling For You:

I'll look forward to seeing what YOU create with Falling For You ... it's so versatile!

Facebook Page Just Opened

I don't know why it took me this long, but I finally put the beginning of a Facebook page up for DigiScrapping with Debbers. I'm rather ambivalent about Facebook in general, and that's probably why it took so long!

Go give it a LIKE and stay tuned for some goodies that will be posted there on Facebook this coming month.

You can see a post from my Aunt Marilyn there - that made my day!

I put up some previews of recent kits and commercial use items in the albums. If you have a great idea of something you'd like me to do/show/have on this new Facebook page, please let me know!

A Week of Family, and More Damasks For You

It's amazing how fast the milk goes when kids and grandkids come over a couple times! Both the boys got to spend the night at Nana and Papa's house this week - together! They went to sleep (in the same room...) like champs without a single problem. At bedtime!

Saturday night all the grandkids got to go to a Fresno Grizzlies game - even the baby! The two-year old made it through, the 5 year old thought it was a blast, and the baby?  Well, she was just happy to be with family. That's her and her Mommy there in the photo from the grandstand. Adorable, aren't they?!

I put four more of my original Damask Designs in my little shop at today. They'll be on the usual introductory sale for 35% off all day Sunday and Monday.

The Damask designs are high resolution, pristine black graphics on a transparent background. Available in two sizes on 12x12 "digital" scrapbooking papers, one is a regular-size background fill, and the other is the special extra-large sized damask motif.

Designers are able to use these Damasks By Debbers are for commercial designs, according to my liberal terms of use.

Click on the image above to see a few sample ideas and the 100% zooms on the damasks.

Be sure to let me know what you create with them! I'd love to spotlight your work here on my blog.

ManuScraps Chooses Blossom Prints for Major Collaboration Kit

Designer Spotlight

Manu Scraps and Aquarius just released a gorgeous new collab called Cherish The Love - and Manu used Blossom Prints for some of her designing with it. Isn't it beautiful? I love the colors, the terrific assortment of papers, and look at all those elements!

She's made a beautiful QuickPage that's free this week that coordinates with it - so don't miss it!

At first glance, it's a digital scrapbooking kit for weddings , but you could use it for so many other things. It includes yellow tulips, pale blue hydrangeas, yellow roses, greenery, a parasol, ribbons, all manner more flowers, embellishments, elements, and I tried counting the papers and lost count!

It's no wonder Manu used Blossom Prints Overlays for her designs, with all those blossom elements. GREAT job on your beautiful designing work, Manu and Aquarius!

You don't have to be a Photoshop Guru to get results like this when you know the tricks!

Thanks Bert - you ROCK!

My Journey to Damasks

It was a simple request. My friend Rachael asked for a set of Damask patterns. I already have quite a few I've cleaned up from royalty free collections which I could have used. But as I stared at them a bit longer, there was that nagging voice in my brain, the one that comes deep from my very soul, wondering how in the world I could make my own. And I just had to learn how to do my own. Just HAD to.

I already understood exactly how to create the repeating pattern, and the variations on the fills. But ... really, a damask motif on a sheet of paper has some specific things which set it apart. It's painfully symmetrical. The space that isn't filled is as important as the space which is filled. The design looks good in light on dark or dark on light. It's all ... curvy ... and seems to just be pleasing to the eye no matter who admires it in any century.

Damask is the name of the type of weaving invented in China by the 5th century.  That's 400AD for those of you who are keeping track. It's hallmark was that it was reversible; you could turn it over and you'd see a reversed color of the front. The pleasing curves of the motif probably didn't hurt it's popularity, either. The Syrians, notably the master weavers of Damascus, had imported the technique and by 1000AD had perfected it to the point of making stunning fabrics. Crusaders took the fabrics and the technology back to Europe with them, where every Royal, Noble, and would-be Lady in Waiting would clamor for the gorgeous designs by the 15th century.

The design of these beautiful textiles became synonymous with the name of the weave, Damask, and although it has a popular revival every several decades, Damask has truly never fallen out of favor in all the intervening years since then. Each new generation of artist ... and medium ... adapts this timeless design motif of 1500 years ago to their vision and time.

So a couple weekends ago, I spent nearly 18 hours reverse-engineering a slug of historic Damask pieces until I thought I understood the proportions and angles well enough to have my hand at my first, original Damask design. It ... was not pretty.  I learned, I adapted, and finally began to feel it in my soul.

I've made a set of 4 damask designs in two sizes. They consist of black design on a transparent background in digital scrapbooking, standard 300dpi 12inch by 12inch PNG files. There's a regular sized pattern overlay and a special large motif  set. They come with a commercial license. Be sure to look at the details of the extra views at the shop, so you can appreciate the quality of these high resolution damask images. (In the shop, click on the preview image to see the other views)

You can bet I'll be working on some more new damasks in the weeks to come. These were so much fun to create. In the meanwhile, tho, you can enjoy them for your papers, elements, and crafts in your upcoming projects. Be sure to drop me a line and let me know what you've done with them. I'd love to spotlight your creation with my damask designs right here on the blog and in my shop.

Rachael Hudnall Chooses Blossom Prints for Collection

Designer Spotlight

I'm SO excited, Rachael Hudnall chose to use my Blossom Prints in the design of her beautiful new digital scrapbooking collection, Sweet Summer. It's wondefully sweet and slightly worn; evocative of casual, warm summer days and nights. It reminds me of curling up with a good book and a glass of iced tea - of playing under the shade trees, or of adventures under a starry, warm evening sky.

Rachael has done a smashing job on these sets with her usual good sense of style. They're not too girlie, they're not too tailored - they do a great job of setting an unforgettable scene for our favorite summertime memories.

And she's made a matching album! I so love albums, they're my number one best friend because they save me all the time of laying out a page. All I have to do is plop in my photo(s) and it's done.

Look for her gorgeous free quick page (speaking of instant gratification!) and check out the great quality before you shop for the set:

It's always such a wonderment to see how people use something I made.  Rachael really puts those prints to work for her in obvious and not so obvious ways.  You rock, Rachael!!

Vacation at Home Almost Over

I got to see the baby yesterday evening, she's rolling over like she's been doing it all her life! And just barely 3 months old. Then I made her cry by taking her into a dark room and sitting down. What a bad Nana I am! What a way to mark the last official day of vacation, making the little cutie cry.

And so, friends, my stay-cation of rest, family, and Photoshop is nearly over. I go back to work on Monday. I've really missed my friends in the office, but it was kind of nice to be on my own clock for a while. It'll be great to get back to work..

If you look around, the blog has a few hints at what I've been up to - but you'll have to wait until Sunday when the new things at the shop are made visible to see what the end results are.

I will tell you I spent a good 18 hours reverse engineering the mathematical theory behind a classic damask motif, though. Yes, my head hurt before that day was over. ;)

It was a good kind of hurt, though. Sometimes I just need to stay working at something until I've figured it out, if you know what I mean.  Now all I have to do is learn how to use what I discovered.

I'd better get going, I have THINGS TO DO between now and Sunday morning!!  ::tease::  ;)

A Little Slice of My Life

By day, I'm the Media Director for SouthPoint Church, a medium-sized church in the heart of southeast Fresno.

By night, I share my time between three adorable grandchildren, their awesome parents, my incredible husband plus I'm a freelance graphic designer for NutHouse-Scraps with digital scrapbooking supplies, and a few select clients.

You'll see family from time to time when I am able to do scrapbook pages of them. I think you'll agree that we have the cutest grandkids on the face of the earth.

At work and home, I use Photoshop for my primary graphic tool. In addition to the graphics at work, I need to make videos from time to time, too - and that's when I turn to Final Cut Pro.

I hope to share some tips with you from my own experience designing and using digital media of all sorts. Be sure to let me know when you have a question!
